Having The Most Stress-Free City Break

As much as we want our travel experiences to be purely on the positive side, often they can be marred with the stresses of planning and managing the trip, especially if you’re not the only one taking it. Even something as simple as a city break can get pretty hectic if you let it. For that reason, we’re going to take a closer look at what you can do to keep things more stress-free for your own break, and why prep time is always essential.

Make plans, but be loose with them

Whether you’re planning a long weekend, a week, or even longer, you should be aware that you’re always going to have less time to see the things that you want. Things are going to take longer than expected, you’re going to want to have more relaxation time, and little interruptions can get in the way. As such, you should create an itinerary but try to be loose about it. Outside of the things that have a clear schedule to them, be willing to swap in and out your stops to make the most of your time.

Book your place early

One of the best things about a city break is that there is usually a huge choice of different kinds of accommodation to choose from. If you’re fine with a more low-key AirBNB or a hostel, you can find it. If you have your heart set on staying in a certain area, however, you should find rooms sooner rather than later. The longer you leave it, the greater your chances of finding everything in those more desirable areas snapped up.

Pack your essentials

Packing well is a key to success for any kind of trip but when you’re in the city, there are a few essentials you should always make sure that you have space for. You’re likely to be photographing, snapping, and using travel apps all day, so bring a power strip with you so you can sit in a coffee shop, charge up, and make sure you don’t run out of juice. Otherwise, a pair of sunglasses to keep you cool in the sun and wet towelettes to make sure you’re keeping hygienic should be on the list.

Give yourself some wandering time

You should plan a few things that you want to see and make a real effort to see them. However, in many cases, people find that they spend so long getting to and from the things on their list that they neglect to really experience the city. Get to learn the best ways to get around your city, and give yourself some time to simply wander, explore, and take it all in. You might miss a lot of the city if you’re constantly rushing to get to the next thing.

If you want a great, stress-free city break, your best bet is to start planning way in advance, at least a month, to make sure that you get the place you want to stay, understand how to get around, and see all you want to see.
